My husband and I will celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks, so we went on a romantic weekend getaway this weekend. What a wonderful weekend we had!
We stayed at a lovely bed and breakfast called the Quiet Walker Lodge in Durango, Iowa. It’s in northeast Iowa, close to Dubuque. It has a rustic, cabin theme and we instantly loved it! Located in a secluded, wooded area, the Quiet Walker lives up to its name: it’s quiet, peaceful, and surrounded by nature. We saw several deer hanging out on the property. So beautiful! I tried to capture a photo of the deer, but they would shy away as soon as I brought my phone out!
Here are some photos of the main lodge where we had breakfast in the mornings and of the room where we stayed:

Phill and Kathy were wonderful hosts! We really enjoyed visiting with them during and after breakfast! Phill prepared vegan breakfasts for me which were delicious! I didn’t take photos, but he made a tofu omelette with a side of crispy hash browns, in addition to a baked apple the first morning! So yummy! The second morning he prepared poached pears with maple syrup and vegan pancakes! I was stuffed! I was so tickled that they went out of their way to make sure that I had vegan things to eat. Such an enjoyable experience!
David and I have been to several bed and breakfast inns, and we’ve loved all of them, but the Quiet Walker Lodge has by far been our favorite! We can’t wait to go back when the weather is nicer. Not only is the place both clean and well-kept, but the hospitality is one of the best we’ve ever experienced! From coming out to greet us as soon as we pulled in the drive, to showing us around and instantly making us feel welcome, to a plate of homemade cookies in the room for David, along with vegan cookies for me, to taking the time to chat with us during and after breakfast and taking us on a tour of the property, Phill and Kathy were awesome! They even showed us the greenhouses where fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs are grown and gave us some of the blood oranges that were ready to be picked!

This is the second time we have done a weekend getaway in the Dubuque area. It’s a really nice area to visit and there so many places to visit and things to do. We ate at a couple of really great restaurants and did some shopping.

Overall, it was a very relaxing weekend and David and I had a great time! We told Phill and Kathy that we will definitely be back next summer or fall when we can enjoy the hiking trails, have breakfast outside on the patio, and enjoy the fire pit in the evenings!
How was everyone’s weekend? I hope you did something relaxing and fun!
