I’m finally thawed out enough to write a blog post! The temps this past week were below zero with wicked wind chills. It’s a struggle just to get out of bed on mornings like that. I just felt like hibernating until spring, you know?
I survived, though, and last night I discovered that the sequel to one of my favorite documentaries, Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead was out on Netflix. If you have not seen or heard of this movie, it’s about a guy named Joe Cross who is sick and tired of being sick and tired, and so he decides to do a 60-day juice fast while traveling around America. The movie documents his journey, along with his conversations with people about why they eat the way they do. The movie has inspired countless people to juice and eat a more plant-based diet. Joe Cross decided to do a second movie to show how he’s doing, traveling around the world talking to people about the benefits of juicing and eating more fruits and veggies.
Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead 2 is just as great as the first. Even though I already eat a plant-based diet and live a healthy lifestyle, there is always room for improvement, and this movie inspired me to incorporate more juicing and smoothies into my diet. But what really stuck with me was Joe’s message of imperfection: we’re all going to have days of unhealthy eating and we need to just move on and try to do better next time. Joe admits that his weight fluctuates depending on how stressed his life is at the time. How many of us can relate to that?
Throughout the movie you hear from people around the world whose lives have changed after switching to a more plant-based diet. Cases of diabetes being reversed, chronic pain disappearing, weight loss, and other dramatic health changes are truly inspiring! I’ve told friends and family many times to watch the first movie, and I will encourage them to watch the second movie as well.
Today I plan on doing a 6-mile run and then watch the Cowboys play the Packers. Let’s go, Cowboys! #FINISHTHEFIGHT
