I’m getting to the end of Phase 1 of Lean & Strong, y’all! If you haven’t been following along, I’m doing an experiment to try to find out what has been causing my weight gain, since I’ve gained about 20 pounds over the last several years. I feel like overall I live a pretty healthy lifestyle, so I’m just trying to figure out if there are small, sustainable changes I can make to help me stay at a healthy weight.
Phase 1 has been NO ALCOHOL. That’s right. This wine lover has not had a drink in 24 days. But it’s all good. Truly. It’s gone a lot better than I expected.
However, I will save the final results from phase 1 in 6 days. In the meantime, I wanted to talk about exercise. I decided to start doing PiYO again. PiYO is a Beachbody workout program that combines Pilates and yoga. I’ve only been doing it for a week and a half, but so far I really love it and I know that I’m using muscles that I haven’t used in a while because the workouts are kicking my ass and I am sore as hell.
The program lasts for 8 weeks, so I’ll be interested to see if and how my body changes.
Initially, I was struggling with sweaty hands and not being able to keep a grip on my yoga mat, which was causing difficulties with holding poses. However, I reached out on Facebook to my yoga friends and one of the suggestions was to put a towel over the mat where my hands go, and that helped completely. No more slipping!
Since I don’t have any running goals to set anymore, I’d really like to explore the yoga thing and see if I can get stronger and improve my balance and core strength. I’d love to be able to do a headstand and maybe even a handstand! Is that crazy for someone my age? Probably so, but this chick ran a marathon and I never thought that would be possible, so who knows what I can do, right?
Stay tuned for the final results of Phase 1. Also, I’ll be announcing Phase 2 of Lean & Strong!
