What a week!

How is everyone out there?  I mean, really – how are you?  I hope you’re healthy, I hope you’re practicing self-care and gratitude.  I hope you’re not hoarding all of the toilet paper and that you’re washing your hands.  If you’re reading this blog, I probably know you personally and I have no doubt that you’re being kind and level-headed and that you’re definitely NOT hoarding all of the toilet paper and you’re DEFINITELY washing your hands.  I’m sending you a virtual hug right now.

I’m doing well.  I’m healthy, my family is healthy.  My week started with prep for a colonoscopy which I had scheduled for Thursday.  On Monday and Tuesday my diet was restricted to no fruits and veggies, no salads, no grains, no nuts or seeds.  It didn’t leave me with a lot to eat, since all of those things are staples of my diet.  I wasn’t allowed to have my post-recovery shakes or my Shakeology drinks.  I basically ate eggs, tofu, applesauce, and mashed potatoes.  My energy was low; I felt terrible.  It definitely made me appreciate how good my healthy diet makes me feel.  Then on Wednesday I was only allowed clear liquids all day.  Early Thursday morning I had my colonoscopy, which went smoothly (no pun intended – ha!), but the doctor did find two small polyps which were sent to pathology.  Hopefully it’s good news and I won’t have to have another colonoscopy for 2-3 years.  I’m not in any hurry to go through all of that again.

Yesterday, David and I went to the grocery store for our weekly haul.  It was pretty busy, but not pandemonium or anything.  However, the shelves were empty of toilet paper, and the paper towels were getting low.  We thought we would buy a thermometer, since we don’t have one, but they were all gone.  Luckily, the pharmacist told us that they just got a shipment of the ear thermometers in, so we were able to get one, fresh out of the box.  I stocked up on a few extra items, the important things, like wine and frozen vegetables.

I would imagine that for the next couple of weeks, at least, we’ll be spending a lot of time at home.  We’ll survive as long as we don’t run out of food (and wine).  If the weather is nice, we can hang out on the back patio, which is what we would be doing anyway.  I have a pile of books to read, TV shows to catch up on, and a new set of colored pencils that I’m itching to draw with.  If we are told to stay put at home, I’ll be okay.  My husband has projects around the house to keep him busy, but out of the two of us, he will go stir-crazy before I do, since he gets antsy and likes to go places.

Focusing on my health isn’t cancelled, either.  I can do my workouts at home; I can cook and eat healthy meals at home; I have water to drink to stay hydrated.  I have my Shakeology.  I can continue to do all of these things.

And guess what?  A new workout program is coming out which I’ll start as soon as I do one more week of 21 Day Fix Extreme.

It’s been an eventful week, for sure, but I’m so grateful that David and I are healthy so far, that my kids are healthy.  Although things seem dire right now, it will all be okay; we’ll get through this.  We just have to do what we can to stay healthy; get rest when we need it; wash our hands, and stay home as much as possible to lessen the risk of spreading the virus.  And for pete’s sake, let’s not hoard the toilet paper (if there’s any left!)

  1. We are healthy here. I am still working. I now have to work 4 ten hour days. Everyone is staggered so the office has 1/3 less people. Each time we enter the office our temperature. We wipe our desks down each day along with our phones, keyboards, mouse etc. Not understanding the issue at the grocery stores. There is no food or paper shortages. I can say with all honesty I haven’t purchased any TP or paper towels. We don’t need them. Most grocery runs are the same for us. 20 items or less. Fresh produce, hummus, veggies, popcorn & quinoa burgers. But I see so many carts full of pizza, hot dogs, coke, snacks. How is crap food going to help if you get the flu? I wish the media would stop the scare tactics. It is a flu. At 57 I am concerned but know if I do get it most likely it will not be fatal. I do what I always do during flu season. Wash hands, avoid crowds and eat healthy. I know this will pass and we will get through this. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
