10 Rounds Update

How is everyone doing?  I’ll admit, I’m an emotional rollercoaster.  There are days when I feel like I’m coping well and other days when I’m overcome with anxiety and fear.  I think that most of us feel this way and it’s understandable.  We must continue to be kind to ourselves and not beat ourselves up if we’re not always handling things the best; if we’re eating too much junk food or not being productive with our work or around the home or with homeschooling the kids.  Sometimes just realizing that we survived another day is an accomplishment.  I just keep telling myself that this will all be over soon, but there are days when it feels like this could go on for a really long time.

I’m lucky in that I don’t live alone; I have my husband and two dogs here.  I keep in touch regularly with the kids through phone calls and video chats.  The girls and I were on a video chat yesterday for almost two hours.  We miss each other terribly and knowing that Easter is coming up and we won’t be able to get together is very difficult, but we’ll do something virtually together because we all have to remember: it’s our great love for each other that we have to be apart right now.  Our separation keeps us safe and healthy, so no matter how much you miss being apart from your friends and loved ones, please remember that we’re all social distancing for each other.

One of the things that has helped me deal with this crisis is exercise.  My eating isn’t always the best, but I’m still continuing to exercise.  I started a new workout program two weeks ago, and it has been a great distraction for me and gives me something healthy to focus on.  Yesterday I completed week two of the program and I just wanted to post about how things are going.  Here is the workout calendar:

The 6-week program consists of three days of boxing moves and then two days of lifting each week.  Each workout is around 30-38 minutes long.  Learning the different boxing moves has been very challenging; there is a choreography involved and making sure I’m stepping in the right direction while using the correct arm can be really hard, but I love it because I’m learning a completely new skill.  By the end of the workout, I’m dripping with sweat and I’m SORE, particularly in the back and abs.  I can feel my core getting stronger and I’m starting to catch on to the boxing moves easier with each workout day.

David started out doing this program with me, but he had a hard time catching on to the boxing moves and just didn’t enjoy it as much as I have been, so he went back to the LIIFT4 program because he really enjoys it and loves the results he gets from that program.

I remembered to take before photos before starting the program, but with everything going on and not always sticking to my eating plan, I have no idea what my results will be at the end of the six weeks, but at this point it doesn’t matter because the exercise is helping me both physically and mentally.

What are you doing to stay sane during this difficult time?

Stay well and safe, and may your glass always be full,

Tammy

  1. My eating has been going really well and I’m excited that the exercise I’ve added has brought me out of the funk I was in. I’m sad I’m having to modify so much but I’m doing my best and just moving is helping me to stay sane. Have a wonderful week!

    1. There is no shame in modifying! You’re moving and that’s the most important thing! I’m so happy that you got out of your funk; it’s not a fun place to be. You have inspired me to clean up my diet; I’ve been letting myself eat too much junk, so this week I’m vowing to eat healthier! Have a great week! ❤
